What is the difference between Nano Brows, Microblading, Powder and Combo Brows?

It can be confusing with so many different names.   Both Microblading and Nano Brows create a hair stroke effect. Microblading uses a hand tool with a tiny blade to create strokes by making small cuts in the skin while implanting pigment.  It is not suitable for every skin type.      SNano Brows create similar hair stroke look using a machine with a fine needle rather than a blade.  It does not cut the skin and it is suitable for most skin types.   It also provides a variety of patterns and styles for more hyper realistic look.  This this is my prefer method for creating hair strokes.  Powder Brows, Ombre Brows and Soft Shading are machine techniques that create a soft, shaded effect similar to brow makeup.  The result can be customized from very natural to more defined, depending on your preference.  Suitable for all skin types. Combo (Combination) Brows offer the best of both worlds, combining the versatility of hair strokes with shading for added definition and dimension.  Suitable for most skin types.

How painful is the procedure?

Most people are pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the procedure is.   Before we begin, a topical numbing cream is applied for 15-20 minutes.  Additional numbing is applied throughout the procedure.    Most clients describe  the sensation as light scratching, vibration, or pressure rather than pain.  Sensitivity varies from person to person, but discomfort is typically minimal.   Many clients, especially during brows procedures, find the experience relaxing and some fall asleep during the appointment.

Do you use numbing?

Yes.   A topical numbing cream is applied before and during the procedure to help keep you comfortable.  Most clients are pleasantly surprise by how manageable the treatment feel.  Comfort levels vary from person to person, but I take my time and prioritize a gentle experience throughout the appointment.

What is the procedure like and how long does the procedure take?

We take our time to carefully map and design brows, lips or eyeliner that complement your facial features and desired look.  Your appointment includes a consultation, custom design and mapping, pigment selection, numbing and the procedure itself.   Depending on the service and individual needs, appointments typically take approximately 2.5 - 3.5 hours.

Who is a good candidate for permanent makeup (PMU)?

Most healthy adults who want to enhance their natural features, save time on their daily makeup routine, or improve the appearance of sparse brows, pale, uneven, or undefined lips, and light lash lines may be good candidates for PMU.Nano Brows, Soft Ombre Powder Brows, Lip Blush, and Eyeliner enhancements can be customized to suit different skin types, lifestyles, and aesthetic goals. Permanent makeup may not be suitable, or may need to be postponed, for individuals who are pregnant or nursing, undergoing chemotherapy or radiation, immunocompromised, prone to keloid scarring, taking Accutane (need to wait a 1 year after stopping it), using blood thinners, experiencing uncontrolled diabetes, or using active skincare products such as Retinol, Retin-A, glycolic acid, or salicylic acid in the treatment area.  Recent sunburn, chemical peels, laser treatments, or some cosmetic procedures may also require a waiting period. How long does it take to heal?

Accepted Answer

Most clients experience flaking, dryness, and mild color changes during the first 10-14 days.  Once the surface healing is complete, you can typically resume applying makeup and sunscreen to the treated area.  Full healing and color setting generally take 6-8 weeks after each session.  During this time, the pigment softens and the final healed result becomes visible.

Is Permanent Makeup truly permanent?

Although it is called permanent makeup, it is really semi-permanent.   Pigments are meant to fade over time.   Factors such as skin type, sun exposure, skincare products, lifestyle, smoking, and aftercare can affect how long the results last.   To maintain the shape, color, and definition of your brows, lips, or eyeliner, a color refresh is typically recommended every 9-18 months, depending on your individual fading and desired look.

How do I know which color is right for me?

We will choose the color together based on your natural features, skin tone, undertones, hair color, and desired result.    For brows, I also consider your natural brow hair and the products you normally use.   For Lips Blush and Eyeliner, pigment selection is customized to complement your features and goals.  During your consultation, I can show you different pigment options and perform color swatches when appropriate to help determine to determine the most flattering choice.  My goal is always to create a soft, natural looking result that heals beautifully over time.

What if I don’t like the shape?

If you normally fill in your brows, wear eyeliner, or use lip color, I encourage you to come to your appointment wearing them the way you typically like them.  If not, feel free to bring inspiration photos. During your consultation, we will discuss your preferences, take measurements, and design the shape together.  Nothing will be done until you have reviewed and approved the final design.  I believe in taking a conservative approach during the initial session.  It is generally easier to add more definition, thickness, or color at your 6 week touch-up appointment than to remove it later.  My goal is to create results that look balanced, natural, and appropriate for your features.

Why isn't work from another artist considered a touch-up?

Permanent Makeup performed by another artist is considered a new client service rather than a touch-up because I was not involved in the original procedure and do not know what pigments, techniques or depth were used. In many cases, previous work may require color correction, shape adjustments, neutralization, or other modifications before adding final color.   These procedures often require more time and sometimes multiple sessions to achieve desired result.  For this reason, all previous permanent makeup must be evaluated before booking.   Clear photos with natural light are required for the assessment.

Can permanent makeup actually look natural?

Absolutely.  My goal is to create soft, natural-looking enhancements that complement your features rather than overpower them.  Every shape and color is customized to your facial structure, skin tone, and personal preferences.  Most clients want to look refreshed and polished, not obviously tattooed, and that is the approach I specialize in.  The goal is for people to notice you look great, and not necessarily know why.

Why do I need a touch up session?

The 6-8 weeks touch up session is also called the perfecting session for a reason.  During the first initial procedure, pigment is applied gradually in layers.   Because everyone heals differently, some areas may retain better than others.  The touch-up allows us to reinforce area where pigment healed lighter and make any necessary adjustments to color, shape or density after the skin has fully healed.  This helps achieve the most balanced and long-lasting result.
